Two Truths and a Lie – review any content

TITLE:  Two Truths and a Lie – review

GRADE:  k – 12

MATERIALS/TIME REQUIRED: 10 minutes; Be sure to have students sign their slips, so there is individual accountability and easy records.

PROVIDE FOR INCLUSION –

Ask students to recall what was learned today (or this week).  Do a quick think-pair-share to help them clarify their thoughts (a test run of truth vs. lie)

IDENTIFY THE OBJECTIVES:

Content Standard:  Any standard will work/apply

Collaborative:  Participate fully, reflect on experience, think constructively, celebrate achievement

Personal:  Reflect on telling a lie vs. a truth

IDENTIFY THE STRATEGY:

Two Truths and a Lie

Invite students to write on a slip of paper, two true statements and one false statement; have each student sign his/her name to the statements/paper.

This can be a “ticket out the door”, where students write two true statements on the learning topic for the day and one false statement, selected examples can be extra credit and/or test questions.  Or, this can be “stump the teacher”.  Either way, it is a good strategy for reflection, review, comprehension, application, etc.

REFLECTION:

Content:  What do you know now that you didn’t know before?  Which type of question was easiest to write (true/false)?  Why?

Collaborative:  How did sharing with someone else help? (think-pair-share)

Personal:  What did you like about this kind of review/reflection/check for understanding?  How did this help you learn or remember?

PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR APPRECIATION:

If you do at the end of class, after each correct answer, applause.

AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT:

Give recognition/extra credit for well developed questions (have students sign names to

questions)
