PROVIDE FOR INCLUSION – A You Question, Energizer, or Linking Strategy: Three Ball Pass; follow as written

IDENTIFY THE OBJECTIVES:

Content Standard: Understanding why bullying happens, and develop ways to deal with bullies

Collaborative: Work together on tasks, value diversity of ideas

Personal: Develop and explore empathy

IDENTIFY THE STRATEGY: Three Ball Pass

Each ball represents a part of a student’s life… school, community, and home. We state for the most part we can handle all three if we are following the TRIBES TLC agreements! We go over the agreements. Then we start doing three ball toss in a community circle…pattern to the same person every time and state “I can handle it” and say the person’s name you are throwing to. Then when that is done, I add in the koosh as the bully. The koosh is randomly thrown and the individual throwing it states, “I can’t handle it”.

The lives of school, community and home (represented by tossing balls) become chaotic and then we stop to reflect.

REFLECTION: We take the koosh ball and the reflection question is simple… how CAN we handle the bully??? We come up with many ideas so that others can hear them and then we paraphrase back what we heard to really hit home what to do.

PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR APPRECIATION:  Invite statements:

AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT: Students come up with at least five ideas of what to do and then send home a handout to students and parents to review and reflect at home.
