Weekly Tribes – “Chillax”

A combination of “chill” and “relax”.  Maybe it’s you (the teacher); maybe it’s the students?

Begin by stating your mind, your mood, your wish or expectation.  Then allow or invite students to share the same.

Sometimes just taking 5 or 10 minutes to reflect, regroup, and re-evaluate the situation can save twice that time in management or planning.

The pacing guide, the schedule, the projects/assignments…might need to be considered as pieces to the puzzle, rather than the solution to success in school.

A little philosophical, perhaps, but we can all benefit from reflection and a moment to ‘chillax’.

Use a community circle, partners, random small groups, or journals as your modus operandi.

You can also introduce “chillax” as a cue that ‘we need to stop and reflect, regroup, re-evaluate’; students can be empowered to model and initiate the practice.
