Follow as written…you can also take the opportunity to teach/review a standard pertinent to writing a letter – add a twist, like persuasive writing, writing a business letter, etc. This strategy is also a good way to reflect TO your students, a concern you may have. Here’s an example: “Dear Abby (or choose another name or topic), I need some help! No matter what I do, I always have students who do not do their homework…”
This is also a handy little strategy for having a bad experience with a sub, playground issues, understanding math concepts, etc.
