Weekly Tribes 2012 – 2013 Viewpoint…and furthermore

This is a great strategy for any content.

Choose an article, chapter section, reading excerpt, current event, etc.  Extract 10 – 15 statements from the section; cut statements into strips and have two of each statement.

Pass out statements and challenge students to find their match by taking turns reading the statement each has, while milling about.  Once each student reads his/her statement, he/she follows with “and furthermore…” which is where he/she adds a comment, summary, opinion about the statement that was just read.  A variation on this topic would be to have the listener add the “and furthermore…” statement.
