Weekly Tribes 2016: Trash Can

This is another creative math activity from my friend and Tribes teacher, Kathy. In this case it is for ‘place value’. The premise is that each player gets nine cards and needs to make the largest number possible with those nine cards; one card is allowed to go into the trash can.

For a real challenge, use it with words (maybe spelling words), instead of cards, and challenge students to make sentences, or write a poem, or use in a story introduction.

This is a great opportunity for a group activity (and 2 people is a group!), and some collaboration.

Trash Can:
Each person will gets 9 cards (only numbers 1-9,) facedown. Each card when it is drawn must be put in one of the following spots:
