Weekly Tribes 2018 – 2019: What If…?

This fun energizer comes from Trevor, a principal and Tribes TLC trainer in Wisconsin.

Have everyone in the group (small or whole class) write a ‘what if…?’ question on a post-it note or small piece of paper.  Then write the answer on the back.  When you do this the first time, be sure to keep the ‘What if?” questions light, positive and even a little bit funny.  Then, as your students are familiar with the potential here, you can make the questions more content-driven, as a check for understanding….

Example:  What if my dog could talk”  (answer:  She would have a lot to say because she barks all the time)

Example:  What if it started raining dollar bills?  (answer:  Everyone would run outside and it would be crazy!)

Example:  What if we didn’t have computers?  (answer:  We would be sad and lost…)

Once everyone has written their question and answer, the fun begins.  Person #1 reads their question.  Person #2 reads their answer; then person #2 reads their question... person #3 reads their answer…and so on, until it gets back to person #1 reading their answer.

So, from the examples above, it would look like this:

What if my dog could talk?  Everyone would run outside and it would be crazy!  What if it started raining dollar bills?  We would be sad and lost..  What if we didn’t have computers?  She would have a lot to say because she barks all the time.

As you can see, there is some hilarity as well as thoughtfulness – sometime the answers even make sense…what does that mean?!
